A film from executive producer Renae Bluitt, “She Did That.” is a documentary that explores the passionate pursuits of Black women and their entrepreneurship journeys. Spotlighting well-respected industry leaders through exclusive, never-seen-before footage, ‘She Did That.’ features vulnerable conversations with four fly female entrepreneurs – Luvvie Ajayi (New York Times best-selling author, speaker and digital strategist), Lisa Price (founder, Carol’s Daughter), Melissa Butler (founder, The Lip Bar) and Tonya Rapley (founder, My Fab Finance.)

The full length feature will premier at the 2018 Essence Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana. Friday, July 6th 2018 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Screening Room (The Great Hall) beginning at one o’clock p.m. and ending at two-thirty p.m. All five of the featured black women entrepreneurs from the film will be present.

An Elevated Conversation

In addition to the film’s main subjects, you will be introduced to many other brand architects, from all walks of life, who are also defining success on their own terms. “She Did That.” elevates the conversation surrounding Black women and entrepreneurship. The film offers a close look inside the lives of four successful entrepreneurs — their legacy, struggles, and triumphs. This film is poised to change lives, elevate minds, and serve as inspiration for young girls who need to see what’s possible with hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

“When God planted the seed for me to produce a documentary on Black women entrepreneurs, I never imagined the journey it would take me on. This project has taught me countless lessons about life that extend FAR beyond the art of filmmaking. There were moments when things seemed to be falling apart, but in reality, they were coming together – and quite beautifully I might add. — Renae Bluitt, Executive Producer “

The Creative Behind The Dream

The artistic narrative of the “She Did That.” concept is captured in design and direction by business performance consultants Patent Ventures. The film’s promotional artwork, photography selection, and scene art deliver nostalgic remnants of the Ettore Sottsass’ Memphis Art Movement and the art of photographer/illustrator Tony Viramontes in mass media. The entire visual style is a contemporary take on the aesthetic of communication art for In Living Color, Martin, and Janet Jackson’s Control album artwork. Noticeably, the film’s creative also pays homage to Brooklyn artist and filmmaker Spike Lee, as the classic title and Netflix remake of “She’s Gotta Have It” have inspired and reinvigorated a new wave of conversation about black female creatives.
